Overview: Viewed
from the air, the monument is surrounded by a circular path around
which larger granite boulders are set. Themes of serenity, peace,
thankfulness appreciation, continuity, and honor pervade the awesome
silence.
Cross Section view: An obelisk in the center rises thirty feet commanding
attention, reverence, and courage.
Flags from each of the services: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines,
Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine will accentuate and stand as silent
sentries to the memorial.
Twenty-two trees will be planted representing each Township and
Municipality in Geauga County.
Location: Ravenwood
Drive, Claridon Township, next to the Senior Center on land generously
donated by the Geauga County Commissioners.
The Boulders: Each boulder of granite or bluestone will exceed ten
feet in height. Plaques will then be placed on the stones with the
names of each and every Veteran from Geauga County engraved on it,
from the Revolutinary War to the present, in both peacetime and
wartime. Over 11, 000 names have been collected to date.
